Artist Profile
Karen Tappendorf
Karen is an award-winning, internationally published metalworking artist who straddles the line between large and small metalwork. Her art-making process consists of figuring out how to transform steel, copper, brass, or sterling silver into the curves found in nature.
As a blacksmith, metal artist, and watercolorist, she is only limited by her imagination. She sees something in her mind and works toward figuring out how to bring it to life.
Working with materials mostly used in industrial manufacturing, her pieces take on a life of their own. The main subjects of Karen’s work are inspired by nature, which is important to her due to the beauty of things not created by man.
