The Gallery 510 Frame Shop

Why is Custom Framing So Expensive? Itโ€™s Not Really.

Although it may seem costly at first, it’s important to recognize that the cost of framing reflects the value of using quality materials to properly showcase and protect your cherished memories. Craftsmanship is another factor in custom framing, as is the expertise of the designer and framer. A well-designed frame can enhance the overall look of your artwork, making it a stunning centerpiece in any room.

The price of framing is not necessarily an indication of a markup. It is actually an intricate process that requires high-quality materials and skilled labor, making it a valuable investment. A quality frame requires top-notch materials such as solid wood, acid-free mat boards, and UV-resistant glass or acrylic to ensure that your artwork is protected from damage over time. Cheaper alternatives may be available, but they lack the durability and longevity of premium materials leading to premature deterioration and fading of the image.

In addition to materials, the design of the frame is another important consideration that adds to the cost. A professional framer will take the time to carefully select the appropriate matting and framing components that will complement the image while also considering the overall decor and style of the room where it will be displayed. This level of attention to detail requires both skill and experience, and it’s what sets custom framing apart from off-the-shelf alternatives.

So, the next time you consider framing a picture, remember that the cost is a reflection of the value that quality materials and design can bring to your memories.

Loving all of the EARTH ๐ŸŒŽ DAY references today. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’—Celebrate Earth Day with Vik Muniz's photograph of Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty. ๐ŸŒ€

Smithson created the work in 1970 in Utah's Great Salt Lake using 6,650 tons of black basalt rock and earth, resulting in a 1,500-foot-long and 15-foot-wide sculpture. "The scale of the Spiral Jetty tends to fluctuate depending on where the viewer happens to be," Smithson said. "Size determines an object, but scale determines art."

Intended to be experienced by visitors, Spiral Jetty remains on view today, over 50 years after its inception.
