Artist Profile
Jessica Disbrow
Jessica loves sunlit scenes and evocative landscapes, happy pets and smiling children as her subjects. The magic of watercolor is that, left alone, it makes its own wonderful effects. Lately she has been playing with pastels as well, and loves that they can be so easily used in outdoor settings. Her goal in every work of art is to find the joy at the heart of the piece.
Jessica Stricklin Disbrow arrived in Decatur, IL, in 1975, fresh from law school and began employment as a VISTA attorney. After a year staffing the local legal aid society, she joined a local firm and continued a 27 year career as the first female litigator in Macon County history. At retirement in 2002, she returned to one her first and most loved hobbies – watercolor painting. It was a welcome respite from the high stakes tension of the courtroom.
